Project Title : Iron Oxide Adsorbers for Arsenic Removal: low cost treatment for rural areas and mobile applications
Country of Implementation : Argentinia
Project Idea in general : Removal of arsenic from the groundwater in rural areas of Latin America.
Objective : Development of an affordable system for small-scale water treatment by establishing a sustainable treatment without liquid waste as by-product.
Development of a tubular ceramic adsorber, consisting of an iron oxide ceramic membrane developed from iron oxide nanoparticles. Heavy metals affinity towards iron oxides helps to reduce the arsenic concentration with minimal trans-membran pressure. Manufacturing, operation and maintenance costs are convenient comparing with other treatment methods as it is compact and suitable for municipal water treatment plant.
