Project Title : Health Improvement in Indian Rural Community through Solar Disinfection Unit - Implementation based on Local Resources and Local Knowledge
Country of Implementation : India
Project Idea in general : Solar energy disinfection system helps to create jobs in the "Lohar" community, India.
Objective : Eradication of poverty and hunger, reduction of child mortality in rural areas and reduction of water- borne illnesses by cleaning water contaminated by microbes. Creation of a sustainable economic model through self employment.
Low cost solar energy operated disinfection system (SDU) developed from locally available material. The SDU consists of water container and a solar absorber: solar radiations are absorbed and converted into heat. Glass covers and insulation avoid heat loss. Thermal effects and UV part of solar radiations result into water disinfection.
